TEAHUPO'O : THE DEADLY BEAUTY
Teahupo'o is a village on the southwestern coast of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, in southern Pacific Ocean. Teahupo'o is known for the surf break and its glassy waves offshore. These waves are often about 2 or 3 meters but sometimes up to 7 meters.
Teahupoo is a world famous wave and a major stage of the WSL championship, this wave has been surfed by the greatest surfers such as Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina or Mick Fanning.
But Teahupo'o is in fact a deadly beauty... Its a really powerful wave and if you fall, you have a chance to hit the coral so that's why Teahupo'o is one of the deadliest waves in the world. Since 2000 there has been 5 recorded deaths.
Teahupo'o has been elected to host the surfing competition of the 2024 Olympic Games taking place in Paris. It will be the first time that surfing is part of the Olympic Games which shows the importance of this lengendary spot in the world of surfing !
