PUERTO ESCONDIDO, A PARADISE FOR SURFERS DISPUTED BY THE CARTELS
Puerto Escondido is a surf spot located in Mexico, it's one of the most famous spots in the world with beautiful and big waves, a heaven for surfers... But the spot has the reputation of being dangerous not only because of the waves, but also because of the cartels that control the place. In fact, Mexico has the highest statistics in terms of criminality in the world... More than 35 000 murders in 2019 have been committed.
The cartels are starting to enter into surfers spots and surfers or tourists are being stole or agressed sometimes. That's why there are lots of patrols of police officers or soldiers to protect tourists and spots like Puerto Escondido which is really important for the local economy of Oaxaca.

But apart from that, Puerto Escondido an the other spots around really are a paradise for surfers.
The wave of Puerto Escondido is called the "Mexican Pipeline" in reference to the famous Hawaiian wave. It's a really dangerous wave, every year, people drown or are getting bad injuries.
In general, the Mexican swell has the best statistics in the world in terms of frequency and intensity of the wave. Moreover the swell is very little damped whether it is north, south or west.
There is also some point breaks spots around Puerto Escondido which are dangerous too because as soon as the wave exceeds 6 feet, it begins to be super quick, ultra hollow and tubular...
So if you go to Puerto Escondido and spots around, be careful and above all have fun, because there is a lot to do right there !
